AKD is 100 per cent Australian-owned and has a processing capacity of 400,000 cubic metres of sawlog per annum, some of which is harvested from 6000 hectares of company owned and managed land, with the remainder sourced from plantations in the south-west region of Victoria.
The company's primary manufacturing site is based in Colac - the heart of one of Australia's most important sustainable timber production regions, with other sites located in Heywood, Geelong, Yarram, Caboolture, Taralgon, Oberon, Gilmour and Tumut.
Established in 1955 as Associated Kiln Driers Pty Ltd, trading as AKD Softwoods the company expanded into sawmilling by the mid 1960's producing superior product from renewable, plantation-grown Radiata Pine - a practice that still continues today.
Through its expansion, the company has become a major contributor to the regional economy, employing 200 local people and has strong commitments to maintaining meaningful community partnerships.
AKD Softwoods continues to invest in leading edge laser scanning and optimisation technology to create precision products tailored to meet discerning customer demand. The recently commissioned new generation treatment process, and the soon to be completed finger jointing and glue lamination, further expands the value added product range.
In addition to utilising the latest technologies to process and market our own timber, AKD offers both a contract kiln drying and preservative treatment service to customers seeking to value add their own products.
